Antarctica #14
February 26,
I didn’t wake up until 0730, but I hadn’t gone to bed until almost midnight. We got around, had our Javas, and then went to breakfast. We both had buffet items. Then went back to our room.
We filled out our survey and then went to the 1000 lecture: Iconic Aviators given by Glenda. After this we went back to our room and found our dismissal instructions with our Atlas pins when we arrived.
I had a siesta. Jeff read. We had a late lunch from Paula’s Pantry, a pulled pork sandwich. Due to the weather and the rocking and rolling, the afternoon Cha-cha session & Galley tours were cancelled. We also posted a blog during this time…we think. We ran out of data on our internet, so not sure if it was successful – will check it later. We watched Jan’s lecture – My Own Cape Horn. He came from Hoorn, Netherlands, which Cape Horn is named for.
At 1600, I went up to the Dome, as Jeff rested some. I went up for the view, forgetting about tea time and the movie trivia. I didn’t participate, and Jeff came up somewhere during this. The views were still not that good – lots of fog and still wave action going on.
At 1800, we went to our last Briefing and Recap. All the Expedition Leaders showed their personal takeaway images of this trip. Flor’s best was with us, our very first Zodiac ride! The last person to show was Jose. He showed a video, which will likely be the video we will receive. It was super! Then all the leaders came on stage as we applauded them.
We then went to our last dinner. We had starters: Cherry Tomato Salad, Caesars Salad, Spicy Garlic Shrimp, and Cream of Onion Soup. The mains: Slow Roasted Lamb Shank with creamy polenta and peas; and Chanterelle Ravioli Pasta in a mushroom foam with walnuts. Excellent last supper!
Then we returned to our room and packed.🥲 Bed by 2130.
