Agadir, Day 6
June 3rd
I awoke late, finally! I did not sleep well. Again thankful that nothing was planned this morning. We have definitely slowed down and not in 'vacation mode'. Breakfast consisted of muesli and yogurt. We heard the kids again at the school – wasn't expecting that with it being Saturday. But they were gone after couple of hours, so not sure what was going on??… a mystery. We have many scenarios, from our many journeys, that make us pause and wonder. So this is another one to add.
Anyway, we just hung out much of the day. For lunch, we made egg sandwiches (after Jeff went and bought some yummy bread). Finally decided to head out around 4pm. We hoofed it – three miles! Jeff had scouted a kebab place for supper. I actually had a hamburger and fries – it has been awhile. Jeff had chicken shawarma wrap. After we finished supper, did about another mile hike, and a bus ride (for the real hike part up) to our destination, Agadir Ouffella. Jeff said it means “attic from above”. It is a fort that has changed hands many times, primarily between Portugal and Moroccans. It's strategic position protected a trade route from Asia to Europe. Anyway, we are here for sunset and a different view – perspective of the city itself and its nice beach. Also bonus, we saw all the fishing boats! Wowza!! There are a bunch, but there would have to be because Morocco exports a lot of sardines to the world.
Well, a great sunset alluded us again. But we enjoyed the fort. We took the cable car ride back to the bottom. Jeff hired an inDrive for us to get back to our place. (This driver was listening to some blues – it was a nice change.) The young man pointed out the moon. It was nice, full. Jeff said it was a strawberry moon? Anyway, we went up to the roof as soon as we arrived. It was great. So for us, Agadir maybe a moon place. 🙂
