Kuching, Malaysia #15

August 23,
0700 up and at ’em. We are moving on again. We had our Javas and the last of our Granola Muesli with hot chocolate. It was not as much as we thought. So we went down to the common area and had some toast. When we had checked in, they offered us toast with coffee or tea each morning. We took up the offer and had the toast with our PB and Nutella. We packed up and readied. We loaded up, checked out and left by 1045.
We had a 97 km, or just over 60 miles, drive back to KK at the airport. Google said it was practically a 2.5 hour venture. Jeff did find a viewpoint area that was out of our way. But it involved a trek and we didn’t want to get all hot and sweaty… we moved on. As we circled around Mount Kinabalu, we saw a long cascading waterfall that we had not seen before. Hard to imagine how long it is. It would have been hard to see it all up close! Anyway, as we went further from this immense mountain, it became apparent how big it really is. We could see quite a bit of it on our trip back! Amazing, big mountain! We did stop once at a gas station, but only to go to the restroom.
Around 1345, we arrived at the airport. Jeff dropped me off at departures to return the car. I found where we were to drop our baggage at. Jeff returned quicker than I thought he would have – surprised me.👏🏻 We were able to do the self baggage check… once it was only three hours ahead of time – we had been a few minutes early. Anyway, that taken care of, we went through security and into the terminal finding the lounge. Once in the lounge we took turns getting food. They had alcohol but only beer. So Jeff had that and I had a Coke. The lounge had a great variety of food available. The roasted veggies stood out the most. Then I blogged and Jeff read. Our plane, of course, was delayed.
We were supposed to take off at 1720… our plane arrived at the gate at 1715. And we had boarded by 1730. But we didn’t back up until 1800, taking off by 1810. We did see the sunset from the window, otherwise a simple flight. The plane touched down by 1914 in Kuching.
Welcome to Kuching, Malaysia!!
We were off plane and had our bags by 1930. Jeff texted the car rental person. We located them and the car, another Axia. We shot our videos and pics, loaded into the car and it wouldn’t restart! Jeff immediately called the lady right back and she and a man showed up. He tried to start the car and now it barely made any attempt to turn over. Bad battery?? Anyway, they gave us the keys to the car they had been in!! She apologized. We loaded into this car after we reshot videos and pics. It is a bigger car, a Persona Proton. So I guess an upgrade?! I was just glad it started.
We found our place, Riverine Sapphire Condominiums. We checked in with the night guard, got our keys, found parking, and unloaded in our place on the tenth floor by 2015. Our place overlooks a lit up fairy-like courtyard of sorts, with at least four/five other towers of this complex. We unpacked some and then crashed.
