Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Tip of Borneo, Malaysia #12

     August 20,

It rained off and on all night, a lot!! The power kept going off and on as well. We finally got up around 0630. We had Javas, and a breakfast of oatmeal with coconut jam and chopped apple with cinnamon. YUMM!😋 As we finished our only “neighbors” were sitting out, all packed to leave. The man came over and talked with us briefly. He and his son are from England- here on holiday. Their ride arrived. Then we saw Kingfishers, an Oriental Pied Hornbill from our porch! The rain seemed to stop around 1000, so we decided to explore and go to Kudat town. It’s the closest town to us. We loaded up into our Axia.

As we were tootling about, I saw a little bird with a very long, steaming white tail flying above us. When I realized that it was a bird, I pointed it out to Jeff. He said he saw only a flash of it. The tail must have been two times its length!! I looked it up and it may have been an Asian Paradise Flycatcher?? We went by Kudat Riviera Villas but it was gated. Lastly we saw a monitor lizard. I did not think we were going to see so much nature! It had turned into quite a venture!

We arrived in Kudat town, passing by their small airport. We stopped at a Bataras supermarket but no small bags of ice. We tried a Servay Jaya supermarket, but they had no ice at all. Finally found a 7-Eleven and got ice. Trusty 7-Eleven, wins again! Now we tried to find a fish place for lunch. Our first choice was closed- Google failed showing it to be open. We tried another restaurant- Sin Lung Seafood Restaurant. We had two sets: a dish of lightly battered Fish with Rice Noodles, plus a fish soup; and a dish of Yellow Noodles Stir-fried with bits of fish, plus another fish soup. I had a coke with ice and Jeff had hot (he didn’t realize it would be hot) lemon tea. The whole order only cost 27 RM which is $6.39.

After we finished, we loaded up and went back to our place. It was Siesta time. I actually took a long nap! It rained as I napped, Jeff said. I was not aware of it! Around 1700, we went out for a last walk on the beach. There were still a bunch of clouds, so the sunset was not colorful. But this made an interesting evening sky! As we settled in for light supper. We had our last huge carrot, last couple of apples, and sunflower seeds. And then it rained some more.
