Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Sandakan, Malaysia #3

     August 8,

Both awoke with sore backs – the bed is killing us! Jeff started looking for another place to stay. He had been up early enough to see the sunrise unfold. I saw the very tail end only. We have one more night here, plus an additional 2nd booking for four more nights in this same place. But Jeff cancelled the second booking. He found a place on booking.com and we can get into it tonight! We looked at it together and booked it! Then we had our Javas and breakfast of Muesli with milk.

We got confirmation on the new place so we started the rounding up/packing process. We still have this place for one more night, BUT… yada, yada, yada! We still had not completely unpacked, but the things we had unpacked were scattered. We took a break for lunch, making a Curried Coconut Jam Pumpkin dish – it turned out lovely. Then I blogged more as Jeff finished and started the cleanup. We started the transfer from this apartment to the new one at 1500. It took us two trips. We are going from Building B on the 9th floor to Building C on the 23rd (top) floor. We love the place and really unloaded our stuff. We did notice a couple of things: no electric kettle – as was listed and the gas stove seemed to not work. 1530 Jeff texted our new host. Two ladies showed up at 1600. The water filter system has hot water and is the “kettle” and the gas had been on- we actually turned it off and they got it to light right away. There was a third issue with the Wifi and they would talk “to the boss.” (That was fixed later and was taken care of, very responsive.)

1630 we E-hailed a Maxim which is like a Grab. We requested to be let off near a hotel – they do scooter rentals and Jeff had booked one online. We tried to find an ATM before, but could not find one open. So we went on to the hotel. A man met us – he took a photo of Jeff’s S.D. License and his International License, and took our money – 200 Ringgit, which is $47.17. (That was basically all our Malaysia ringgits.) Then he walked Jeff through the basic stuff: key, opening the seat compartment, and kind of gas. The scooter is a Wmoto, a Malaysian made bike. He also gave us helmets – Jeff’s was fine, but mine would not stay fastened. So he exchanged mine and away we went.

First stop was an ATM, one we had tried earlier was open now and Jeff got some cash. Next was a pharmacy. I gave my list of prescriptions, but the personnel said I need to have prescriptions… this is a first in 2+ years. They said I would need to go to the clinic and see a Dr.! We left and went on to supper at Bistro 88. We had Black Pepper Lamb (mutton) with rice and Steam Fish Fillet with Taucu Sauce – which is a savory sauce made of fermented soybeans. Both dishes were really good! We finished and went to a different pharmacy that had a clinic aspect to it. They saw my list and had me talk to a Pharmacist on their phone and I was cleared to have my request filled. They gave me almost a two month supply of most medicines. I will have to go to another pharmacy for more supply before we go back to the US. Anyway, we drove back to our new apartment – we even have a covered parking space in the rental of this place.

We went out on our balcony. The other place did not have this feature. I actually noticed when I was looking for a balcony, that the bedroom window did not close all the way! That place had other issues, but it is a list that I won’t get into. We are happy where we are now and like the bed much better.😁 Anyway, we sat on the balcony for much of the evening, watching the city lights come on and were blessed with a gorgeous practically full moon! Crazy kind of day.
