Portiragnes

At a French beach on Mediterranean

     April 27th

Our journey took us 13 km, and 5 locks meandering the canal today. At our first lock while waiting to go downstream, we were with two other boats: one was a group from Arizona, USA; the other was a group from Perth, Australia. We went with Australians all the way to where we planned to stop for the day – just past Portiragnes, at a mooring place near the bridge Pont de Roque Haute.

We loaded up our bikes and took to the road from the bridge down to Portiagnes-Plage. It is here we went to the Mediterranean Sea! It was beautiful!!!  So calm and cool. We dipped our toes in. 🙂   We walked along the tide, looked at shells, and just enjoyed. It was lovely to have sand and water in between my toes. Then, needing food, we biked back to our boat and readied for walk back along the sea for supper. We each had a pizza. Jeff's was best – it had base of crème fraiche with curry and toppings of mushrooms, onions, peppers, olives and curried chicken. Mine was fresh tomatoes and sauce with cheese, onions, olives, and tuna. We both could only eat about 2/3rds of our pizzas, so we asked for a to go box. But we stopped at a gelato place and split one small cup — think it was a chokeberry. It was very purple!

Strolled back to our boat to watch sunset, listening to birds and frogs near our boat.
