Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Chiang Mai, Thailand #1

     May 9,

Well, the day began in an airplane! The flight was just fine and just under 3.5 hours. We arrived at the airport at 0230 according to our bodies, and watches, but local time was 0130.
At 0145 we deplaned…

Welcome to Chiang Mai, Thailand!!!

We got our bags fairly quickly and booked an airport taxi for 200 Thai Baht- THB, which was $6.05. We arrived at our new accommodation for one month, Astra Condo; found the mailbox to retrieve the key to our condo; and went up into our place. It looked lovely with a nice welcoming and much needed bed!😂😴  We crashed by 0230.

By 1000 we had been up and about, we both were still congested this morning. I don’t know what’s up with this. We went out in search of food for breakfast. Right across the street was Rote Yiam Beef Noodle. We went in and pointed at the build it yourself menu, both of us having flat rice noodles with sliced and stewed beef in a super-good, zingy broth… YUMM! It cost us 100 THB, which is $3.03! Now, I thought, welcome to Thailand! When we finished, we walked to a close by scooter rental place. The guy had a Honda Click, 125cc and it’s a pretty blue. Jeff was able to get it for 3,000 THB, which amounts to $90.74–$3.02/day. While Jeff did the paperwork as I shot a video of it. We found helmets and took off.

We went to the Big C, a Thai supermarket chain and found a few items that we had on the list. Jeff had signed me up with the discount membership here in Thailand back in January, and it still worked. (I never actually got a card, but have the member number saved in my photos.) We got as much as we could carry on our scooter. We even used the recyclable bag that we had gotten when we got the membership. It has been a good bag and we use it a lot!

Anyway, we arrived back at our place and unloaded our bounty. After we cooled off and relaxed, we had a PB & J sandwich for light lunch. And then I sorted out our stuff better as we did not get a chance to when we arrived here in the wee hours this morning…that was just this morning!😵‍💫  That took up much of the afternoon. We like our place, it is small but laid out well. It needs more storage and less knick-knacks, but this is personal preference. We also did a load of laundry, and set it up to dry on our balcony. It was very hot today and will be dry in no time. It was a lazy day, but this was okay as we were still a little loggy-foggy and punchy from just getting here and the lack or weirdness(?) of sleep we did or didn’t get.

Around 1730, Jeff went out to a local food place and got us some takeaway Beef Khao Soi soup and Green Papaya salad. The soup was good, but the salad had too many dried shrimps making it taste a bit fishy plus it was very spicy. Jeff said he’d told the person a little – to which the person laughed. We finished and took in our laundry. The evening was just relaxing and watching some YouTube.
