Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Baguio, Philippines #16

   April 4,

Up and about. We gathered our laundry and Jeff took it to the launderette. Then we had our Javas and breakfast of scrambled eggs with blue cheese, garlic, three purple Tiger Peppers and a tomato. Also had the some cinnamon bread. We watched some YouTube.

Around one or so, we went out walking to a Greek restaurant, called Lemon and Olives Greek Taverna. I love the name! When I think of Greek food, well lemons and Kalamata olives come to my mind. I had Lemon and Olives Special Lamb Chops with a Worcestershire sauce, Grilled Veggies and Lemon Pilaf; and a Lemon-Cucumber Juice to drink. Jeff had a Souvlaki Plate of Lamb “grilled and drizzled with Chef Takis’ secret Greek sauce, accompanied with garlic, chili and tzatziki sauces,” with fries, veggies, and pita; and he had a San Miguel Beer. Excellent meal even though they did not have Retsina.😋😋  Where we sat, we had really great views – overlooking the Pine City of Baguio. Finished we paid our bill of 1,655.36 PHP, which is $28.88. Then we walked back to our place. The walks to and from the restaurant totaled around six miles! Something I noticed on the walk – we haven’t seen that many cigarette smokers, just an observation.

Afternoon turned to evening. For supper we had a light one: of cheddar cheese, watermelon, and cinnamon bread. We didn’t need much else as we had such a great lunch. We watched a movie after we finished.

     April 5- transition day,

Jeff had to make some phone calls last night, so we didn’t get to sleep until late… like 2300!  We’re such party animals!😂🤣 Anyway I didn’t get up until 0730. Jeff said he’d been awake since before six. We got about having our Javas and breakfast of oatmeal, and some “last ofs” our watermelon, coconut jam and PB. Then we packed up our stuff. We leave Baguio this evening, So out of our place by 1100. Jeff took the keys down to the hotel nearby.

Jeff E-hailed a Grab taxi to the Joy Bus terminal. I did ask the driver, as we were going, how many taxis are in the city of Baguio. He said, “Just under 5,000, mam.” We knew we have seen a lot of them… and this does not count the Jeepneys! Crazy! We arrived and parked ourselves in the waiting area for a long sit. Around 1230, Jeff went out to get us lunch at Makatata Smash Burgers and fries. Finally at 1310, we boarded our bus. The fare for this ride cost 670 PHP, which is $11.70. The time going was supposed to take 4 hours, according to the lady when we booked the tickets; but the ticket taker said we would arrive at 1630. That’s only 2.5 hours!🤔  Anyway, at exactly 1400, the bus backed up, on time! The driver only stopped three times:  for a money collector guy(?) to board and be dropped off after everything was sorted; third stop was to drop something off to a teenage kid – a son of the driver or ticket man, maybe? Then the bus went on the nice highway, and we moved. The drive is covering much of the same way we route, except faster, that we’d come arriving to Baguio. The only thing of note –  when we started, we were driving though some of Baguio we had not seen, because when we arrived it was dark. It was hard to believe there was so much more city on the other side of yet another mountain.

We pulled into the airport and unloaded off the bus right at 1630! So the lady who sold us the tickets was just wrong. Anyway inside the airport, we checked in our bags, were through security, and arrived to our gate by 1700. I blogged and Jeff walked. Then I walked and Jeff started processing this blog & read. We ate a light snack of blue cheese, & crackers that we’d brought; with some chocolate & PB cookies (that we were given on the bus). We boarded plane by 1920. At 1955, the plane backed up. 2005 we took off, right on time. The night view over Clark Airport and Angeles city was nice. The plane touched down at 2104.

Welcome to Puerto Princesa!! We are on the island of Palawan in the Philippines!

We were through baggage claim by 2130, and the GCI minister here met us and drove us to our hotel, The Blue Lagoon. It was so nice of him to offer this service to us. We got checked in and the pastor said he would meet us tomorrow to take us to services. We thanked him, saying goodbye and went to our room. Unloaded and crashed!
