Tuy Hoa, Vietnam #47
December 6,
Awoke to wet, well, everything outside and dismal gray, cloud-filled skies. What I would give for some blue… just kidding, but it is wearing on a soul! We got about and had our Javas (with our new mugs) and breakfast of muesli, yogurt and processed milk as in the kind you buy on a shelf – non refrigerated. If you want milk, you adapt… as long as you have a refrigerator at home. I still need cold milk. So I haven't adapted as much as I thought. LOL! Jeff must have slept wrong, he has a big sore place between his shoulders. But we both slept decent, considering the bed is too soft for me and the pillow selection is too puffy for Jeff.
Midmorning, I put the TENS unit on Jeff, and then went out to re-check on the times for the gym. We had thought correctly, but I also found the trash room and took care of that. When I got back to our place it was raining again… seems always and forever! Jeff was not much better so he took some ibuprofen from his nurse! Ha-Ha!! For lunch we made do with our bread, an apple, laughing cow cheese, and the garlic sausage slices. Then I blogged as Jeff read and tried to relax. Afternoon came and went with more rain, actually it has rained quite a lot today. At 1500, we attemped to go to the gym, but the attendant – through Google translate – said it was the equilant of $5 for each of us!!! So that did not happen. Their equipment was not that great! Back to our room. Humph!
For supper, Jeff feeling some better, went out to the establishment's restaurant, and the little convenience store for water. He came back empty handed and then said, “The restaurant delivers” … and I will be surprised with what he ordered. He was right. Within 30 minutes we had Pumpkin Soup; Spaghetti Bolognese with garlic bread; and Pan-fried, Slow-cooked Duck Breast with mashed potato & veggies and a black pepper sauce!! Better yet we had our own wine, a Dalat Shiraz! (We saved the soup & bread) for another time. It was another fine meal. Jeff said the guy at the restaurant that took his order was the one who brought it to us! We enjoyed! On the containers was a label of each item with the saying… “Enjoy every moment of your life.” Amen, we are so trying to do just this… so many blessings – I guess, including the rain!
December 7,
Awoke and looked out as it started raining! It had rained quite a bit last night it seemed, or maybe it was just a lot of howling wind. So we got about, had our Javas and breakfast of Muesli and milk. We finished and were contemplating about what to do, when the sun streamed in!!! Yeah! So glad to see the SUN! Weather App showed little chance of rain until tonight. But looking at the sky… we did not want to rent a scooter. You can not tell if it's gonna rain or not.
Anyway, we went out to the really close mall and grocery. We needed stuff and we were testing the weather. It felt good to be out. We bought some food stuff, and went back to our place and unloaded. We then ate the pumpkin soup & garlic bread (and a baguette) as the Muesli without yogurt did not hold us over. Around 1300 we went back out as the rain seems to be stalled somewhere else. We haven't really seen any of this town! We headed to the beach, about 5 blocks. The roads to the beach are super wide and mostly empty.
At the beach, the wind is really blowing. We actually stayed on the nice, wide-meandering boardwalk; rather than the wind-blowing-sand beach. The waves are churning and crashing… due to the wind(?), maybe. I wonder though if there would be big swelling waves even without the wind. I have questions, don't ya know!?! We walk and notice only a couple locals on the beach – that was it, on this stretch anyway. We haven't seen really any foreigners in this town, until we came down here. We passed the main attraction, choosing to come back after walking a bit further. There is a “tourist set up” area with a little, toy lighthouse, a memorial of sorts, and a cute little pool area that has a stone “xylophone” set up in the middle of the pool. Finally, a few tourists taking pictures here, but that was it. It could be a cute hang out spot if it had someone playing the xylophone and/or a restaurant/bar scene.
Then we arrive to the area that is noted to see in this town – according to some vloggers we have seen. Nghinh Phong Tower. It is two sides of stone blocks stacked in stair-like fashion ascending to one taller tower, separated by a narrow “chasm” with carved reliefs of Vietnamese life. It is posted to not climb the blocks. We did not, but some were. It was not enforced. The tallest tower on one side is 35m (115 feet) and the other is 30m (98 feet). The chasm space is almost like a tunnel feel and the wind whistles and whips through here at high velocity! You are supposedly able to hear a “special unique music piece” in here. I did not, but I think the wind was too strong. I had to power through the “wind tunnel”. It was over the top in Vietnamese fashion, as we have come to experience, but it was fun. There were more tourists here as well. We decided – if it is not raining – to come back at night as it's lit up with a light display.
Anyway, we left and walked back as the weather was holding out. We went back down the boardwalk further than where we started, then turned back into town and to our place. From the little bit we have seen – it's a very sleepy town. We arrived back at our place around 1400 and cooled off some. Then we went back to the mall for dinner. We went to Lotteria, which is a chain fast food chicken place. We had a chicken sandwich with fries and a 3 piece fried chicken to go. the sandwich took the longest. We took it back and enjoyed it. They have a sweet chili sauce that is great.
Around 1800, it was dark and still not raining so we went back out to the Tower and so glad we did! It was way cool! The light display changed randomly and was great. It would be flooded in red or blue then purple, yellow, and green; then all of the above colors! Fantastic!! It was still just as windy and still I did not hear the music. I was okay with this – as I made my own music! Praise to God!! We trekked back to our place thankful for the ventures of the day and evening!
