Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Phu Quoc, Vietnam #2

       August 8,

             Good Morning, Vietnam!!

…I have been waiting a long time to say that!!🤣😂😅

Anyway, we got up and about, decided to go out for breakfast. We jumped on the scooter, and explored a bit. We drove down along where the night market is. We then drove to a local place, a restaurant at Rova Hotel. We had Pho Tai Lan, which is Pho with Stir-Fried Rare Beef, and My Xao Bo, which is Stir-fried Beef Noodles. [Sidebar- Pho just means a type of Vietnamese soup with stock & spices, noodles, and thinly, sliced meat- beef or chicken. And another sidebar- many letters in Vietnamese had special characters over them. I will not be using them.] We were also given a plate of greens (which added 30,000 to the bill. We didn't eat much of them.) Now, our meal was great! The Pho stock was good and “marrow-y” tasting. We also had an Orange Juice and an Iced Milk Coffee it cost us 210,000 Dong ($8.36). So it was better than tourist costs, but still more than local pricing.

Finished we now take the scooter to the actually town of An Thoi – not the Sunset Town-Disneyesque An Thoi. We checked out what we thought to be a couple of grocery stores. The first one was more a tourists/souvenir (?) store. Jeff had done more reading of Phu Quoc and found out it is 90% Vietnamese tourists, and a majority of the remaining 10% are South Koreans. We found a couple of food things to buy, otherwise we just browsed. Then we found a little local grocery and got a few more items, but not near what we were wanting. Drove back to our place.

We decided on snack-type lunch: Hanoi Beef Pho flavored Lays potato chips, mixed fruit chips (sweet potato, taro, and jackfruit), and some wheat crackers. It was all we needed. Now we went up to the pool for a swim. It actually had quite a few people! Downside to this, we couldn't do laps. so we did some in place aerobic type swimming. It was nice to see others/families using the pool though. (You can't have it both ways.) we finished and went back down to our place.

Around 1830, we went down to the night street market-  Cho dem Vui Fest (Bazaar Sunset Town). Now, we just explored our options. First we caught a fleeting glimpse of sunset. Then we were going to walk up and back then pick out what we wanted for take away. But … well, we started eating what we got. Here's the low down. Donor kebab @ Kebab Bahn Mi- so yummy, 30,000 Dong; two skewers of meat @ Dan Vi BBQ – one chicken & one pork, watching the grilling was almost as good as the skewers of meat!, 30,000 Dong; one egg @ Phu Quoc Style Grilled Eggs – it's a scrambled egg in the shell that has been grilled, definitely different, 10,000 Dong; and @ H' Corner Food Cart- one grilled beef wrapped in betel leaf, 15,000 Dong and one grilled rice paper with special onion sauce, 15,000 Dong. These are what we ate as we were going. Then as takeaway, we found: three pork sausages- one traditional flavor, one salted egg and cheese flavor & one mix of pork, onion, and herbs @ 3 Flavour of Sausages Grilled on Stone, these were excellent!, 50,000 Dong; and lastly Papaya Salad Thailand (with seafood) @ An Vat Alo ngon, 100,000 Dong (We ended up throwing out the salad- it had a fermented fish flavor, that we didn't care for.) All total was 250,000 Dong, which is $10.00. These takeaway items we ate at our place with a local, white wine from Da Lat. All in all a successful outing and sampling of various foods!

Next we watched our nightly show and fireworks display. The show is the same, but the fireworks were better due to the a slight northernly breeze. It carried the smoke away better, so we could see the spraying hues of color better. It was great! We really love these displays!!
