Belo Horizonte, Brazil #20
August 12,
We were up and around by 0700, settling into our morning routine. We had our Javas and breakfast of bacon sandwiches. Then we watched some YouTube and planned out what we wanted to do.
By 1130 we set out for Museu da Cidade, or City Museum. We arrived and it was free. The museum started off by explaining that Belo Horizonte was an (UN)Planned city. According to a placard, a hamlet, Curral del Rei, was essentially buried to make way for the new capital of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte starting in 1896. The museum delved mostly into the (Un)planned history as the hamlet “searched for ways of life that persisted, coexisted, and reinvented themselves faced with the new city.” Then the placards (minus two others) were in Portuguese. It was interesting, but overall underwhelming as far as a museum goes. Jeff and I agree that if you were a local, you would get more out of it.
Anyway, we headed out. My right knee has been causing walking to become more difficult, especially when I have to bend it on steps. So we called it a day and Jeff E-hailed us a ride through the service “99,” a version of Uber. We took it close to our place, getting out at a Sushi place, called Sushi Meiyo Culinaria Japonesa. We have walked past it many times and today was the day to try it out. We split an order of a plate that was supposed to be Salmon with capers in a sauce with rice and salad. It did not have any capers, but the salmon and sauce were great. Jeff also chose 12 Sushi pieces from many available. I had a coke and Jeff had a beer. We enjoyed it, paying 99.34 BRL, or $19.03. We then walked the two blocks back to our place. I struggled some even with that far. That was not good.
Back at our place, we settled in. Later, we had bread and the awesome cheese that we bought at the market. That cheese was so good! I tried to get my knee comfortable and finally took some medication, going to bed.

When I awoke my knee was not worse, but not better. So the day was a stay at home day for me. We had breakfast of Muesli, yogurt and an apple with PB. Morning went as I tried to stay off my feet, and not bend my knee. Jeff did some planning. For lunch, Jeff went to a local grocery store and came back with fixin’s for the last of our Chicken Ravioli. So we made that with veggies and tomato sauce. Afternoon came and went… just doing the same as we did this morning. Supper was snacking on that great cheese and crackers. It was a bummer day really!

This morning my knee was much more sore and it really hurt to bend. It was like – it would not engage to bend at all. I knew I was going to have to have it checked out. So when we got around Jeff found a highly rated ortho doctor that was near to us. We had a WhatsApp text session and were able to arrange for an appointment for Monday morning. Jeff then made us French toast to have with our Javas. I laid back down – just to stretch out my leg, as that is the most comfortable position. Lunch was a delivery that Jeff had ordered. I had chicken, rice and mashed potatoes, Jeff had pork, sausage, beans, rice, and shredded kale. The afternoon went as the morning had. I updated all our families about my knee. Supper was a snack of carrots, hummus, and crackers. HO HUM!
