Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Belo Horizonte, Brazil #17

August 7,

Up & About by 0730. I’m enjoying this shower, mostly. It’s an electric one with the only downfall is to get the hot water I like, I have to sacrifice some power. But the spray pattern is good and the space of the shower is roomy! Also it is water tight… no wet floor!! We had our Javas. I like my new coffee.☕ For breakfast we had Muesli, yogurt and PB.

After we finished by 0910, we headed out trekking for 2.7 km (1.67 miles) to a Decathlon store. We are both in need of replacing some light weight shirts. It was a warm walk as today was supposed to be in the low 90’s, but the humidity isn’t 60%+! It’s in the 30%! We arrived at just about 1000, a bit huffy-puffy. Google maps said it was, like 350ft elevation increase and like 120ft decrease…so up and down. Anyway, we meandered through the store and found three new shirts each. It is hard to try on shirts when you are sweaty – just sayin.’ Thankfully mine were the right size. The population, overall in South America, are similar in size to people in the USA. So easier to find our sizes. The six shirts ended up only costing 270 BRL, which was $53. Not too bad!!!

Next we went to a nearby grocery store, called Verdmar. It was a nicer store and we found Greek olives and Feta here…makings for a Greek Salad. We haven’t seen Feta cheese for quite some time, and it was pricey! It cost ten dollars for just under 10 oz!! Definitely a splurge. Groceries in hand we left and stopped at another grocery store that is closer to us and our host recommended. It was called Supernosso Cruzeiro. Jeff actually only went in since we had some groceries. I stayed out with them. Now groceries were all taken care of – we finished walking back to our place and hit our 10,000 step goal within sight of our place. Whew!

We cooked some corn on the cob for lunch, but it was not sweet corn. Rather, it was very starchy, not pleasant at all. So we threw it away, instead we had salami and cheese sandwiches with some great nutty bread we just found. Then I blogged and Jeff planned. For supper we had baked potatoes done in a toaster oven. Those were great. When we were getting ready for bed. We both were showering when the water turned cold and stayed cold! UH OH!😟😯 Thankfully we were mostly done. Jeff checked the breaker box and nothing was off. So we texted our host, to let him know. It was close to 2200 and we knew nothing would happen tonight so we called it and went to bed.

Happy Birthday to my mother’s husband!!!

We were up and about by 0730, but no shower. Our host had texted us at 0600 this morning, but we did not notice it until almost 0800. Long story short, a technician is supposed to come before 1300 to fix it. So we settled in for a “stay at home day.” We had our Javas and breakfast of scrambled eggs with mushrooms and onions. The tech guy showed up around 1100. He took care of the shower, but made a mess in the bathroom. He asked for a dish towel – through translation. I just gave him the bath mat… which was white. But the shower was fixed in no time. Jeff ordered delivery lunch from Trem da Serra. We both had Sirloin Steak and Sausage with fries, rice & beans, and fried banana. It was good and only cost 33.27 BRL, or $6.53, as Jeff got a promo deal. Then I was set about cleaning the bath mat and was so involved, I never checked to see if the shower actually worked. Plus, I tweaked my back cleaning the mat, so I laid down with the TENS unit. When I got up, I checked the shower when I remembered. Just then our host texted us to see if the shower worked. So Jeff texted him back affirmative. Jeff also did lots of planning.

The day was shot, so we just hung out. Later, I did a WhatsApp video with my sister as everyone was at my mother’s house celebrating her husband’s birthday. So we wished him all the best and said hi to everyone. That made the day better😊. Then supper was a Greek salad with the lovely Feta! I blogged and Jeff read. Plan on having a great shower later!
