Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Arequipa to Iquitos, Peru #25

     July 14,

We awoke at 0500, but I was able to go back to sleep until 0730. We got around leisurely as we had mostly already packed up our stuff. We had a light breakfast of HB egg each and crackers with PB and Nutella. We finished packing and we were out by 1015. As we exited the gate, it was a different doorman. Pooh! I wanted to say goodbye to Marcos!! The taxi Jeff had E-hailed arrived in a couple of minutes and we were off to the Arequipa airport.

We arrived by 1045. While checking in our bags the attendant pointed out some damage on our biggest bag that we had not even seen. He even tagged it so this airline wouldn’t be responsible. We are flying on Sky, a Chilean budget airline. Anyway, I went through security without a hitch due to having old and new passports. I actually did not have to show my old one. Then we went to the Andes Salon VIP Lounge. We each grabbed some food. I had a pesto, cheese, sundried tomato mini sub on a dark multi seeded bun – super-duper! Also I had a mini dark chocolate mousse on a dark chocolate crumb. Jeff had another HB egg, a fruit cup, and a mousse as well. He tried a bite of my mini sub and got one of those. I thought it was good to see that he is hungry and able to eat. But that didn’t last too long, unfortunately! He took more Imodium. I blogged about yesterday.

Anyway, we left the lounge and boarded the plane by 1215. The plane was parked on the tarmac and had a great view of Misty Volcano – even though the air quality is not so good today. The plane took off at 1244 – 14 minutes late. There was no service provided on the plane. We touched down in Lima, Peru at 1400. We were off the plane and just sitting near a TGIF T.V. when we saw Spain score on a penalty kick against France! It was the first score!!! We were able to obtain a bit closer seats and watched the remainder of the game. Then we found new seats close to an outlet to plug in. As we were charging our stuff others plugged into our extension cord. When we were all charged and Jeff removed his phone someone else took his place! At one point there were six phones plugged into our cord!!!😂 It was an octopus. They need more outlets. We ate the sandwiches that we had brought. Our layover was four hours. So much fun to hang out in an airport- HAHA! I walked to get steps & blogged. Jeff read & planned.

Anyway, we boarded at 1845, and backed up at 1903, two minutes early; and took off at 1915. The city of Lima was illuminated. Then we were out of Lima and it was dark out, so no terrain was visible, but I could make out stars. We will not see the Andes for a while now. The only service offered was by payment. The plane landed at 2045.

     Welcome to Iquitos Peru!!!

By 2100 we were loaded onto a tuk-tuk and away. These tuk-tuks are a bit different and we had a good breeze. It was great seeing the town unfold. We arrived at our place by 2130. Anthony, our host, met us. He actually paid for our tuk-tuk as the driver didn’t have change and Anthony dickered with the driver. We went into his place/restaurant and talked small talk. Then he took us up and showed us our room. We unloaded and were ready to turn in, and the toilet almost overflowed. So Jeff called on Anthony and he plunged it down. It was toilet paper, but I didn’t put it in. Anyway, we turned in by 2230.
