Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Arequipa, Peru #22

     July 10,

I woke up at 0614… and I think I had the best night’s sleep I have had in quite a while. I felt refreshed! It was a blessing. Jeff slept in until 0700! We got around and readied. Back story here… We have 2 showers: one is electric heated, the other is gas heated. Yesterday the gas powered one stopped giving hot water in the middle of my shower, which means the gas was out. There are two different tanks with connections to different water sources, so not critical. But Jeff used the electric shower head one. This head sends out water in all directions and you have it use low water pressure to get it hot. Our host had immediately responded yesterday, but no new tank was delivered yesterday. So today we both took our showers after Jeff swapped the tanks, not ideal. Jeff texted our host to refresh his memory, and within 30 minutes a guy with a new tank arrived! Yeah!!! We had our Javas and breakfast of oatmeal with PB and Nutella.

Around 1040 we went out walking. We found a copy shop and made a couple copies of my new passport. They charged 1 PEN, or 29 cents for the two color copies. They did not offer lamination. So we walked to the Asian market close by, near the mall we frequent. We found a roll of thick adhesive plastic and bought it (it only cost 4.90 PEN, or $1.44. Then we also went to a grocery store. We wanted Mac & Cheese – previously we had seen some. They have a Kraft brand, but we found a local box with the local Huancaina salsa. We bought two boxes of these. We also got some mushrooms, and pepperoni – for what we call “adult” Mac & Cheese. We headed back to our place, stopping for some bread and wine.

Once back Jeff laid down for a bit. Then we had our lunch. I worked on updating my calendar book I have been keeping since we started traveling in 2023, as Jeff laid back down. The air quality is not the best this afternoon. Usually we thought it to be morning…we don’t know the true patterns after only five weeks.

Supper was bread and herbed mozzarella cheese with the last of our wine. We watched the highlights of the Spain and Belgium World Cup match. Then we just listened to music for the evening.

It’s hard to believe the year is half way over. Being here in their winter – in July. That reminds me our place has a nativity scene – Peruvian style. It is set in a ceramic red pepper!! It has Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and I think the animals may be an Alpaca, a Guinea Pig, and a cow??? Kind of neat…

Anyway, it was a day of simply living, someplace else.
