Arequipa, Peru #20
July 6,
We were up and about by 0800. For breakfast we had some Muesli, pear and yogurt with our Javas. I blogged, as Jeff read then completed the blog. Morning gave way to early afternoon.
We went out walking for steps and lunch. We went to the mall that we have only been to once. At their food court, we saw a Mr Sushi. That sounded good to both of us. We ordered two different five piece sets. The worker did us a solid and convinced Jeff to change our order to a combo – with our two choices. This added battered shrimp strips and a small chica morada (the Peruvian purple drink) for only two PEN, or 59 cents more! Paid 30 PEN, which is $8.81. We finished and went to the grocery store in this mall. We only found some of our list. So we walked to the other mall and their grocery store- only found a couple more things. This was crazy, but I guess we needed the steps. So we walked to the local grocery store, getting the rest of our list.
Back to our place, Marcos saw us and let us in. I think he sleeps in the little office he comes out of to open the door. Anyway, once in the apartment, we unloaded and watched the Spain VS Portugal match. Then we back out to get the last of our steps and we stopped at Salteneria Roma. It is right near our place and advertised that it was founded in 1965, and is a Bolivian take on an empanada. We ordered two carne ones to go. We paid 10 PEN, or $2.94, and took them back. We ate them with a salad we made. Actually we did not care for the saltenas, they were a sweet dough outside, with too much gravy that squirted out when you bit into it. As we were eating I checked my E-mail and found out my passport was “being delivered to DHL” – one step closer, but still in Lima.
We watched the USA get beat handily by the Belgians. Then we talked with Jeff’s sister and her husband since they were busy yesterday. They are well and that ended our day.
July 7,
Up and about by 0900, as I didn’t sleep the greatest (dreamt of my passport). We split a pear and yogurt for a late, light breakfast. Then we watched Argentina brilliantly (and controversially) come back and beat Egypt. Messi is still getting goals.
After the match was completed we went out for lunch. We wanted Alpaca steaks so we chose to return to El Fuego de San Antonio. The main guy remembered us. We each had the 250 gram Alpaca steak meal with roasted potato wedges. We did change up and had a starter of Solero de Queso, which is a salad of corn, beans, onion, tomato, cheese and olive garnish. The Alpaca meat was as good as we remembered! I had a Pisco Sour and Jeff had a Arequipena Beer and we shared a bottle of water. The bill was a bit more than last time – 179 PEN. But Jeff added a 10% tip, so the total was 196 PEN, or $57.53.
When we finished, we left and took a longer walk back to our place, stopping at a grocery store and a pharmacy for lotion. We have gone through a bottle since we have been here – Arequipa is very dry! Anyway, we finished watching the match between Switzerland and Colombia. What an even matched game that was – overtime and then had to go to “penalties”. After this World Cup season, Jeff and I have decided we don’t want to watch anymore soccer! We settled in – (no supper needed) and listened to some music then turned in around 2130.
