Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Arequipa, Peru #4

     June 6,

We were up and about at 0800 – we readied and had our Javas with breakfast of oatmeal with mango Greek yogurt. I have been crumbling in a “peanut butter bar thing”. They crumble up well like a pie crumble topping, and add a bit of crunch. Jeff had bought them our last morning in Paraguay to get rid of change. I like them more than Jeff does…which is okay, more for me!😆

We finished and set out. Jeff’s dental appointment was at 1000. We set out walking the mile or so, and arrived around 0955. Jeff checked in and we sat for maybe a minute, before he was called back. There were more people waiting – seemed to be more moms with their kids…it is Saturday. Anyway, I pulled out some sewing I had brought – working on Jeff’s CPAP strap. Neither one knew how long it would take. They were done in like 45 minutes! Surprise!! I did not even finish my sewing project! Jeff paid in cash – 1200 PEN, which was $349.36. Jeff told me they had to crack/bust off the temporary crown, then they made a mold and placed a new temporary crown…all in 45 minutes. Anyway, as Jeff paid, an appointment was set up for this coming Wednesday. They will already have the permanent crown ready to place by then. Crazy!

We left and went to an Asian shopping place. We found a few items we needed, then walked to a mall to get more steps. As we were lapping we saw two girls riding on mechanical animals. These seem to be available in most malls down here. They were having fun. We found the food court, and saw a place that advertised soups, which sounded great. But when we tried to order them, the waitress -through google translate – said they weren’t available until after 1600. We left the restaurant and the mall. We decided to head to a restaurant that the Canadian man staying in our place recommended, called Amaranta. We had Macarrones al pesto con bistec, which was large macaroni/pasta in a spinach pesto with a marinated beef steak; Pastel de tallarin con rocoto relleno, which was pasta and cheese baked-type casserole with a stuffed red pepper. Both were good, although the steak was a bit tough and thin. We were given a tea of some sort that was included. It cost us 28 PEN, but Jeff gave 30 PEN or $8.73. As we ate we saw the Canadian man there and he finished as we did, we walked back to our place together.

We spent the evening relaxing. We had cheese/crackers and some peanuts for a snack supper.

June 7, Happy Birthday to one of our nephews!!!

Today was our connection day. We are in the same time zone as back home, so I had to get up early. It was worth it. We did a video call on WhatsApp with my mother and her husband. Then we had our Javas and breakfast of a fried egg sandwich and yogurt.

Next we linked up on Zoom with our church brethren back home and watched service. After service was over we went out. We walked uphill to another viewpoint area of the town of Arequipa. It was just over a mile and with it being uphill at altitude – we had to stop a couple of times to catch our wind. We have adjusted mostly to the 7,700 elevation, but obviously not completely. Along the way we passed a little valley of terraced fields, right in the city! We arrived at the overview and had to pay 5 PEN each or $1.46 each. It was a great vantage point and nice place to hike up to. Great views of the city itself and all three volcanoes.

We went back to our place and made a chorizo, veggie stir-fry lunch. We also made our own Pisco Sours. Then we connected with my sister on WhatsApp. She sent me pictures of her new grandbaby. Adorable! Then we ended the evening talking (also via WhatsApp) with Jeff’s sister and her husband. Good couple of days!!
