Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Buenos Aires, Argentina #34

     March 23,

We both awoke, having had a decent night’s sleep… it does happen, occasionally, okay- rarely.
We readied and had our Javas and breakfast of eggs with stir-fry bits and toast. Unfortunately, we have been having our breakfast indoors, due to the cold and it had just rained.🙁

Morning gave way to lunchtime. We had cheese, crackers, a banana each and PB- snack-type. Then we finally washed our parkas. They both, after I detached the hoods, filled the little washer to full!! The weather/temperature was still cool-damp, not really conducive to getting out and about. By early evening, it finally warmed up and the sun actually came out. This was good because we had plans!

Around 1815, we set out walking. We took our time taking in the architecture as we went. We arrived at our destination – about a mile away – by 1850. We went to the Aljibe Dinner Tango Show!!! According to a sign inside it has been a “Familia Tango Show” since 1980. The set up was many tables all set up in view of a stage for the dancing show. It reminded me somewhat of the Crown Uptown back home. Anyway, we were early enough that we were seated in the front row of where they seated people in. The inside decor was of brick and the stage was like the sidewalk/streetside along storefronts. It was darkish with dark wood and brick fronts.

Our waiter, Adrian, came and gave us a menu. He explained we get a starter, main and desert each with a bottle of wine(Malbec). He even made recommendations. We had the starters: Beef Empanada with Yasgua sauce, and Butternut Squash Soup with Parmesan & chives; mains: Patagonian Beer-braised Smoked Pork Shoulder with sweet potatoes & creole sauce, and Halibut with capers, black & green olives, EVOO, and basil, in a tomato/lemon sauce over boiled potatoes; and desserts: Homemade Flan with dulce de leche- a caramel sauce – & whipped cream, and Poached Pear in Torrontes Wine with whipped cream. The food was excellent. A couple next to us was from Melbourne, Australia. We talked with them through dinner. They had just done the tango dance lesson, which was an option.

The show started at 2030. There were four musicians – a bass (not a guitar, but an acoustic upright type); a pianist; a bandoneon (a box-type kind of an accordion); and an acoustic guitar. Two tango couples came out and started the show. What great dancers they were!!! I jokingly told the lady next to me that she and her husband were able to dance like this now. She laughed and said they were not, but it was fun.The musicians played throughout- all sets. There was a female singer that performed next. Then alternating performances of the two tango couples; the singer; an older tango couple; and another couple that danced, played drums and did stomping/tapping dancing. The whole show was great and we enjoyed it very much. It ended by 2130 and we walked back the mile to our place. It was a nice evening.
