Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Mendoza, Argentina #17

     February 11,

I had a wee bit of wakefulness at 0300 am for about 1½ hrs, so I did not reawaken until 0800. We got around having our Javas and breakfast of a shared ham & cheese croissant, and a cinnamon type roll. Jeff went out at a local shop and bought them when he talked with the lady building attendant/cleaner. She did have our key to the laundry room, thankfully! So we did a last load of laundry. Then I blogged to get all caught up. As I mentioned, we don’t know if we will be able to post any blogs while we are doing our Antarctic trip.

Around noon we went out to get steps, and try to find some last minute odds and ends for our excursion. The day is quite cooler than yesterday and nice. It was supposed to rain this morning but it did not. Anyway, we were thankful for the cooler air temperature. We passed through a couple of the plaza/parks. So many were enjoying the weather as we were. There was another protest/demonstration going on. Also as we were walking, someone passed by us and said, “Chiefs.” It did not register until after he had passed that he was referencing my “Kelce T-shirt.” I chuckled when I realized what he’d said, because most of what we hear is Spanish, that I have blocked out conversations around us.

First we stopped at an eyeglass shop to get some eyeglass straps. They had some and we bought one each. Yay! We had bought some cover sunglasses for our prescription glasses, but we wanted straps on the sunglasses so they won’t fly off on the zodiac boats.

Next we went to the larger, close by Carrefour, where we found all the rest of the other bits and bobs for our upcoming venture. Double Yay!! Well we are still lacking those darn motion sickness patches! We are hoping to find them in Buenos Aires as it is on the coast and a major jumping point for these cruises. As we left and walked back, I saw another old Ford truck. I have not mentioned this, but it seems a few of the late seventies and early eighties Ford trucks are down here. We have also seen older Ford Falcons – of all things!I have many questions about this… as you can imagine! Well Google answered a couple of my questions. It seems the Ford Falcon was produced in Argentina from 1960 to 1991. Interesting!

Now back at our place and had our leftover sandwiches for lunch with the last of our feta and the last Malbec that we had bought from our very first wine tasting. The wine was as good as I remembered. I then started today’s blog as Jeff had a siesta.

Around 1530 we went back out to get more steps. We headed to the large park and checked out the photography museum. The few works that are displayed – maybe three dozen – were from a photographer named Maximo Arias. Only one picture really stood out, that of an older woman carrying tree limbs. She had the most beautiful smile. I think we were finished – 15-20 mins. max. Then we walked some more in the park and basically walked back to our place.

We shared a can of peas and last of our popcorn, watched some Mandalorian, then started the repacking process.
