Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Mendoza, Argentina #10

     January 31,

We were up and about by 0700. It was still cool and cloudy, but there were patches of blue sky. That was hopeful. We set about having our Javas and breakfast of oatmeal (I put PB and a bit of Nutella in mine, Jeff put Nutella and raspberry jam) and yogurt. We both thought we had seen a hummingbird flittering around.

We decided to stay in for lunch. We have a few leftovers to be eaten. I had some pasta and Jeff had some stew. Both were better the second time around. 😄

We went for a walkabout to the big General San Martin Park. Here and there we saw evidence of yesterday’s storm. At the intersection into the park, it was very dusty – billows of dirt in the air. We figured out that it was from some dirt that had washed into the busy street from the runoff of the soil in the park. All the traffic was stirring and kicking it up. Anyway, walking in the park was lovely. Some birds were chirping all around and people were enjoying the park on blankets spread out on the grass. We saw a few down trees – one of them was quite large. Then we attempted to go to two different museums in the park, but both were closed (even though they were supposed to be open). So we walked along the other side of the lake, seeing the little island with a locked bridge out to it.

Then we went back to our place by way of a different route. Jeff likes to go different routes each time. I’m fine with this, but it makes me totally lost to where we are, which direction to go… clueless! Along this new way, we saw an interesting tiled short wall at an elementary school. Each four foot section was a different scene. I liked the llama and the birds the best.

Back at our place we cooled down and relaxed. For supper we had French type layout – bread, blue cheese, and olives with wine, of course. We ended the day by watching The Empire Strikes Back.

February 1,

Awake and about by 0730. We had our Javas and breakfast of Muesli and yogurt on our balcony. Today we both definitely saw the hummingbird-s, as in more than one of them.👏🏻🤗🥰

At 1000 we started our connection day, talking with my mother and her husband. It seems the snow from last weekend has stuck around because it has stayed cold this week. Yikes! 🥶We ate a banana each, then Zoomed with our church back in Kansas – all of whom seemed well and keeping warm also. During our service I noticed the hummingbirds more. So when we finished I set out some sugar water for them. I think somewhere above us, there must be some feeders or flowering plants for the adorable little ‘hummers.’

We went out for “lunner” around 1500. We wanted steak, so we went back to Restaurante Estancia La Pasion. We figure why change, when we know how well it will be here. I had the sirloin with sweet potatoes and Jeff had the ribeye with sauteed veggies. Jeff’s ribeye was a better cut than my previous one, and my sirloin seemed larger than Jeff’s prior one. It was still great. We had the Zuccardi wine, but went with their Cab Sav, which was not as good as the Malbec. Anyway, we paid 78,800 ARS (we were charged $57.51). I did not eat all of my sirloin so we got a doggie bag.

After we finished, we walked to the Carrefour and purchased a few supplies we needed. We passed by a Menorah Memorial, with a placard describing it as a tribute from the province of Mendoza to the State of Israel for victims of a terrorist attack on the Israeli Embassy in Argentina in 1992. This memorial was erected on the 30 anniversary of the attack in 2022. Then we went back to our place. We did a WhatsApp with my sister and then Jeff’s sister and her husband. They are all well also. Connections all ended we turned in. Just a couple of days living somewhere else.
